DISCOVER CANBERRA’S COOL-CLIMATE WINE REGION

About

Spend a day exploring Canberra’s cool-climate wine region on a private tour through Murrumbateman and the surrounding wine country.

Our usual day takes in two boutique wineries, a relaxed lunch with wine, a local spirits tasting and something sweet to finish things off. Sometimes we can combine the spirits and sweets into one stop, sometimes we make a separate visit. Either way, it makes for a pretty good day out.

Canberra might be better known for politicians than Pinot, but the region has quietly built a reputation for some seriously good cool-climate wines. Shiraz and Riesling are particular local favourites, alongside plenty of other varieties and an increasingly interesting collection of distillers, brewers and small producers.

Some of the wineries we love visiting include Murrumbateman Winery, Eden Road, Clonakilla, Barton Estate, MacKellar Ridge, Mount Majura Vineyard, Lark Hill and Contentious Character.

For the spirits side of the day, Ambrosia Distillery is one of our favourites, along with Canberra Distillery and Local Spirit. We like to follow the harder stuff with something sweet from a local producer where we can. Apart from being a good excuse for a treat, it rounds out the day rather nicely.

And because the tour is private, the itinerary doesn’t have to be set in stone. If your group is more beer than Shiraz, we can potentially swap a winery for a brewery stop at somewhere like Capital Brewing Co or Cypher Brewing.

Every private tour is a little different. We build the day around what’s open, what’s pouring and what your group enjoys. If there’s somewhere you particularly want to visit, tell us when you enquire and we’ll do our best to work it in.
